RICHARD YORKE - MANAGING DIRECTOR

Richard originally trained as a joiner, gaining an Advanced City and Guilds Carpentry and Joinery qualification. He emigrated to Sydney, Australia, in 1986 and set up his own building company, working on prestigious properties in and around Sydney.

Following the death of his father in 1991, Richard returned to the UK to take over Yorke Construction. Building on its excellent reputation as a family firm, Richard made Yorke Construction a Limited Company in 1999 and has grown the business, year on year ever since. With a genuine and long standing passion for rugby, Richard is also the President of Longlevens RFC.

Charity is of the utmost importance to Richard and his wife Fiona and between them they dedicate a great deal of time to raising money for good causes.

In 2010 Richard took a party of 17 to Calcutta where they taught children how to play rugby in a refugee camp outside of Calcutta. Whilst there they met Sailen Tudu, who returned to the UK with them, gaining a full scholarship at Hartpury Rugby Academy. Richard has also taken part in both The Great North Run and The London Marathon. In 2007 he was part of a three man team that walked to the North Pole, raising over £120,000 for a local charity, the National Star College at Ullenwood in Cheltenham; recently the Yorke Construction team gave their time and supplied materials to fit out a new training facility for the College.

Richard is currently on Olivier Azam's testimonial committee, raising funds for Pied Piper, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick children in Gloucestershire. He and Fiona are currently training for a sponsored bike ride and will be cycling from Gloucester to Paris in May 2011.
